How to create a Goal in Apty Admin Console?
Fundamentally, Goals are created on top of one or more Activities. In other words, to create a Goal you need to have Activities running in your hosted application. There are no limitations on how many Goals you can create. Additionally, you can create Goals on any event or business process you would like to improve.
Step 1: Open the Application
Goals are application-specific. So, first, click on the hosted application for which you want to create a Goal
Step 2: Click on Goals
Open Goals screen inside Apty Admin Console as shown below.
Step 3: Click on Add Goals
By default, with no Goals, the screen looks like this.
In the above screen, you need to enter the following inputs.
- Goal Name
- Recurrence
- Start Date
- Target Date or End Date (depending upon the recurrence)
Step 4: Add Goal Name
What is a Goal Name?
Goal Name is the unique title that defines what the Goal is about.
Step 5: Add Recurrence, Start Date, and End Date
What is Recurrence?
Recurrence defines how many times the goal will occur within a time interval. Apty provides you with three recurrence options to choose from –one-time, weekly, and monthly.
How to identify Recurrence from the Goals Overview dashboard?
The recurrent Goals will have this icon
That is how we can identify if it is a one-time Goal or a recurrent Goal.
If the Recurrence is one-time, then it will have a Start Date and Target Date.
For weekly or monthly Recurrence, you will get a Start Date and an End Date.
Start Date: It defines the day when the Goal will start.
Target Date: It defines the day when the Goal will complete.
End Date: It defines the day when the recurrence cycle will end.
Take a look at the following examples to understand the concept of Start Date, Target Date, and End Date:
Example 1: Let us say our first Goal has a recurrence of one-time. We want the goal to start on 8th July 2021 and stop on 20th July 2021. For that scenario, we have to configure the dates as shown below. Here,
- Start Date: 8th July 2021
- Target Date: 20th July 2021
Example 2: This time we have a Goal with a weekly recurrence cycle. It starts on 8th July 2021 and ends on 26th July 2021. That means,
- Start Date: 8th July 2021
- End Date: 26th July 2021
Note that the Goal has a weekly recurrence cycle, which implies the goal completes its last recurrence cycle (that starts on 22nd July 2021) on 28th July 2021. So the Goal will run till 28th July 2021. Here’s how the recurrence cycle would look like:
- First Weekly Cycle: 8th July – 14th July
- Second Weekly Cycle: 15th July – 21st July
- Third Weekly Cycle: 22nd July – 28th July
There will not be a fourth weekly recurrence cycle as the recurrence is set to end on 26th July.
Step 6: Save changes
After setting up the recurrence,
- Click on Save and Add Activities to save the Goal and move on to the next step for adding activities, or
- Click on Save and Close to save the Goal and close it without adding any activities.
Step 7: Add Activities
Option 1: If you clicked on the Save and Add Activities option in the previous step, then you would be able to see the following Add Metrics screen directly.
Option 2:If you clicked on the Save and Close option in the previous step, then click on the Goal from Goals Overview dashboard, as shown below.
Once you click on the Goal, you can see the following screen. Click on Add Metric to add activities.
After that, you will see the following Add Metrics screen.
Step 8: Select Segment of users
Apty gives you the flexibility to select user segments and set different activity correctness for them.
Let us say, for a particular activity, you want your marketing team and sales team to achieve different correctness goals. In that case, you can use the Segment option (note that you need to have predefined user segments such as, Marketing Team Segment and Sales Team Segment). Otherwise, you can always use the All Users option to set the same correctness goal for everyone.
Step 9: Set Correctness Goal
Complete the Goal creation process. by setting the Correctness goal. It is the correctness target you want to achieve with this Goal.
Step 10: Save the changes
You can click on Save and Close to save the changes you have made so far and go back to the Metrics Overview screen.
You can also continue to add more activities to the same Goal.
